“ESS @ 10: The Rise of Generation ZED” Department of Entrepreneurship Week 2016-2017



With the theme, “ESS @ 10: The Rise of Generation ZED”, the Entrepreneurial Students Society hosted its annual Department Week last January 10-13, 2017 along with the celebration of their 1st decade anniversary. Different activities were conducted through the week that ignited a healthy competition between each section from every year level of the department. The objectives were to showcase the talents, skills, creativity and beauty of the students and tighten the unity between one another. The weeklong celebration was co-presented by CNJ Video Productions, UBER, T&J Salon and AVON Philippines, in partnership with Goldilocks, Hawk Backpacks, and Chemworld Fragrance Factory. The When In Manila, Astig.PH and Click the City were the media partners of the event.



Before the awaited department week, the elimination games of the Sports Festival were initially held last December 19-23, 2016 at Hipodromo Covered Court and Teresa Covered Court. However, the semi finals and championship were continued during the Department Week proper.

An opening program was held at PUP-Claro M. Recto Hall last January 10, 2017 to commend the official opening of the weeklong celebration. A heartwarming message from the department’s chairperson, Prof. Zenaida D. San Agustin followed by inspiring remarks from the college dean, Dr. Raquel G. Ramos lightened up the program. The program was divided into to two parts. The first part was the Pre-pageant of the Entrep Next Top Model where the candidates introduced themselves and showed the crowd a hint of their modeling capabilities. With the aim to impress their fellow Entrep students, the candidates showcased their stunning look in their casual wear that made the audience drawn to their wit and beauty.

On the other hand, the clash of the singing entrep students was highlighted in the second part of the program. Ten extravagant idols sung to their hearts content to bring home the title, Entrep Idol 2017. The ten competing idols were from each section of each year level of the department. Four guest judges namely Prof. Leo Alcaraz, Ms. Sandra Faith F. Dela Cruz, Ms. Jorie Lynn Avestruz Manuel and Mr. Eydrin John De Vera gave fair judgement to the ten competitors. After the performances of the contestants, Ms. Maribeth Bagay from BS Entrep 3-1 won the 2nd runner-up title and Mr. Jerico Libanan of BS Entrep 1-1 had the 1st runner-up title. Finally, Ms. Shaqlyn Aira Monares from BS Entrep 4-1 gained the title Entrep Idol 2017.

January 11, 2017, Wednesday, the BS Entrep students had a blast competing in the Academic Contests prepared by the organizers. The academic contests were divided into four categories such as: on-the-spot poster making contest, Logo Quiz Competition, Four Pics-One Word and Spelling Box Contest. However, the On-the-Spot Poster Making Contest was held before all the other categories. It was done on the first morning of the Entrep Week and was rated by the ESS Adviser, Prof. Jerome P. Dumlao. The winners were announced on the same day as well and they were, BS Entrep 2-1 in the 3rd Place, BS Entrep 3-1 in 2nd Place and BS Entrep 2-FS1N in the 1st Place. Meanwhile, the other three academic contest categories were held consecutively at PUP-OU RM 08. First was the FOUR PICS – ONE WORD where the quiz takers will be answering 10 questions from easy, medium and difficult level. In the quiz competition, the students must guess the word representing by the four pictures displayed on the projector. After the quiz on the three level of difficulties, Ms. Veronica Hapuil, Ms. Vanessa Miana and Maynard Lacaste got the third highest score in the completion while, Ms. Jasmin Lopez, Mr. John Ruiz Macaspac and Ms. Shiela Lyn Magbanua in the second place. Finally, Ms. Claire Danes Baldelovar, Ms. Maria Rema Joy Frondoza and Mr. Lance Peñafiel got the highest score in the completion and therefore won the 1st Place.

Next was the Logo Quiz Competition. In this quiz, the students must guess the name of the company that owns the logo displayed on the projector. There were also easy, medium and difficult levels in the competition. After the scores were tallied, Mr. Prince Albert Caracas and Mr. Jerico Javil placed second and the 1st place was awarded to Ms. Joanna Kristine Pojas and Mr. Allen Sta. Ana.


Last but not the least there was also the Spelling Box Competition. Letters from paper cut outs was placed in a box and the box was 2 meters away from the students table. There were three members in a group; one must pick up the correct letters inside the box that would spell the word pronounced by the head facilitator, the other member will deliver the letters back to the third member of the group sitting on the chair 2 meters away from the box of letters and must correctly spell out the word pronounced using all the letters delivered to him/her. At the end of the competition, Ms. Jem Yee, Ms. Joana Joy Yee and Ms. Judy Ann Bonador was in the 3rd place while Mr. Prince Albert Caracas, Mr. Jerico Javil and Ms. Hazel Sanchez in the second place. Then lastly, Ms. Aira Eden Pallarca, Mr. John Ruis Macaspac and Mr. Keith Jury Leal got the 1st place in the Spelling Box Competition.


The race on the Amazing Minute was taken place after all of the Academic Contest. 10 different stations were placed in the PUP Mabini Campus and in each station, the participating teams must finish the challenges in one minute only. The BS Entrep P1 and 1-1 tied up in the 3rd Place while the BS Entrep 3- 1 won the 2nd place and lastly, BS Entrep 3-2 in the 1st Place.


Meanwhile, the students’ spirits were lifted on the third day of the Department week. January 12, 2017 was the most awaited Entrep’s Battle of the Bands 2017. It was held in Claro M Recto Hall at 4:00pm until 8:00 pm. The program was hosted by Ms. Kristine Joy Pontillas and Mr. Jomar Sobiono. Prof. Jerome P. Dumlao, the adviser of the Entrepreneurial Students Society gave his opening remarks to start up the awaited battle. Ten passionate bands representing the ten sections from the department played their OPM covers and mush up songs. Everyone enjoyed the program so much that even the organizers did not notice the time. At the end of the program, the organizers did not announce the winners of the battle of the bands and saved it up for the awarding program the following day during the Entrep Next Top Model runway night. However, the battle was given conviction by the three guest judges namely, Prof. Leo Alcaraz, Mr. Ken Jassen Cabintoy and Mr. Ron Eddie Carlos Biasca.



Finally, the last and major event for the week has come. On January 13, 2017, the most awaited runway night of the Entrep Next Top Model was held in PUP-NALLRC, Bulwagang Balagtas Hall at 5:00pm-10:00pm that was hosted by Mr. Jeam Patrick Rodillo and Ms. Loraine Ugaddan. Mr. John Carlo Pineda, Ms. Daugthereen Gernandizo and Ms. Edlyn Grace Dela Cruz witnessed and judged the 19 models during the runway night. However, the awarding of major awards such as the Sports Festival awards, Academic Contest awards was given in between of the program.




The candidates impressed the crowd with their production number in the opening of the program wearing their uniform look of the official ENTM shirts. They competed in modeling capabilities, looks, picture poses and runway walk.







The models wore and showcased their designer looks after their production number. For the designer look, one representative from each section must create a wardrobe made out from recycled materials and then dress up their candidates. Mr. Marshall De Castro and Ms. Carmen Ramirez won the Best in Designer’s Look award and their respective designers won along with them.



The awarding of the winners in the Sports Festival was taken place while the models are preparing for their next look. For the Volleyball games, the Mythical 6 was awarded to Mr. Jeremiah Ezequiel M. Santos, Mr. Clave John Austin A. Lasala, Mr. Carl Dominic L. Pabas, Mr. Jasper John M. Marquez. Reynan F. Abestilla and Ms. Nikka Marie D. Bautista. The Best Scorer was Mr. Jeremiah Ezequiel M. Santos, Best Spike, Mr. Clave John Austin A. Lasala, Best Server, Mr. Carl Dominic L. Pabas and the Most Valuable Player was Mr. Jeremiah Ezequiel M. Santos. The BS Entrep 1-1 got the 2nd place, BS Entrep 4-2 in the 2nd place and BS Entrep 2-P1 in the 1st place in the Volleyball League.


For the Basketball games, the Mythical 5 were Mr. Reynan L. Hernando, Mr. Jesie Gallora, Mr. Ronnel Libres, Mr. Jonathan P. Medrinaand Mr. Marshall Justin R. De Castro. On the other hand, the Finals' Most Valuable Player was Mr. Reynan L. Hernando, the League's Most Valuable Player was Mr. Marshall Justin R. De Castro and the Most Defensive Player was Mr. Jemart C. Lacebal. The winners of the league were the BS Entrep 2-FS1n in the 3rd Place, BS Entrep 4-2 in the 2nd Place and BS Entrep 1-1 in the 1st place.


Afterwards, the candidates showed their stunning beauty and handsomeness with their long gown and formal wear. The recognition of other awards was given while they are in their last look for the night. Mr. Lysander Palada and Ms. Joanna Kristine Pojas won the Best Photo award, Mr. Christian Navarro and Ms. Joymee Roslin got the Best in Make a Scene award, Ms. Jean Glyne Rivera and Mr. Lysander Palada for the Hawk Backpacks Top Model award, Mr. Marshall De Castro and Ms. Ericka Mari Lazaga won the Best in Casual Wear award and Best in Uniform look. Lastly, Mr. Luis De Jesus and Ms. Joanna Kristine Pojas achieved the Best in Formal Look award.

After the awarding of the special awards, the Top five female and male models were announced Mr. Marshall De Castro, Mr. Dan Genesis Luzong, Mr. Luis De Jesus, Mr. Romeo Same and Mr. Franz Earl Monter made it to the top five male candidates while, Ms. Carmen Ramirez, Ms. Joanna Kristine Pojas, Ms. Joymee Roslin, Ms. Ericka Mari Lazaga and Ms. Joanne Paez were the top five female candidates. The announcement of the top five was followed by the question and answer portion.

While the organizers are computing the judges score sheets, the awaited announcement of the winner of the Battle of the Bands happened. The third place was The Sleeves from BS Entrep 3-2, The BandPaper from BS Entrep 2-2 in the 2nd Place and finally, the Parokya ni Mang Juan of the BS Entrep 4-2 in the 1st place.


Without further ado, the announcement of the winners for the Entrep Next Top Model was taken place. Mr. Dan Genesis Luzong and Ms. Joanne Paez were the 4th Runner-Up, Mr. Marshall De Castro and Ms. Ericka Mari Lazaga as the 3rd Runner-Up, Mr. Romeo Same and Ms. Joymee Roslin in the 2 nd Runner-Up, Mr. Franz Earl Monter and Ms. Carmen Ramirez as the 1st Runner-Up. And the crowned Entrep Next top Models 2017 were Mr. Luis De Jesus and Ms. Joanna Kristine Pojas.

For the finale, the BS Entrepreneurship 3-1 was awarded as the Overall Grand Champion on the ENTREP WEEK 2016-2017.
