Just Got Entrep: Freshmen Orientation 2017


Among the four departments of the College of Business Administration, only Entrepreneurship and Marketing accepted first year students for the academic year with one section per department. The Entrepreneurial Student Society then welcomed their new members with the warmest regards. Last Friday, June 30, 2017 all the freshmen of the department of Entrepreneurship were gathered at the Accenture room for the department's Freshman Orientation with the theme, "Just Got Entrep!." 42 freshman students attended the said event together with the presence of 3 department faculty namely; Prof. Leo Alcaraz, Prof. Melissa Rey and Prof. Cresilda M. Bragas, and Prof. Zenaida D. San Agustin, chairperson of the Department of Entrepreneurship, showed her support to the organizers (ESS) and of course to the first year students through her presence. The event was hosted by Mr. Jomar Sobiono, an Entrepreneurship student and a former officer of the society. Also, Ms. Gladys Cornejo, alumna and former president of the society was also there.


As a culture of the ESS, the event begun with a prayer lead by the Vice president of Budgeting and Finance, Ms. Charlene Sy followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem. Meanwhile, Prof. Alcaraz gave his opening remarks. He discussed to the students the essence of Entrepreneurship as a degree and gave a light motivational talk as well. He further discussed the overview of the course description. A brief history, collection of the achievements and the presentation of the faculty and department officials, were presented through an AVP.



To be able to let the freshmen know their classmates well, an activity was held. It is called the "Paper Plane" activity wherein the attendees had been given a clean sheet of paper where they can write their internal traits, then make an origami of plane afterwards. Participants then formed a circle and threw the planes that each had picked up. After the activity, the ESS president, MS. Bea Angela Guevarra held an open discussion of the Frequently Asked Questions of freshmen and accommodated questions and concerns from the crowd. Another game was prepared to break the ice. Students were grouped into 5 teams with 8-10 members each. The game was divided into 3 parts: Part I- Guess the Brand, Part II-Rebus Puzzle and Part III-Riddle. The games objective is to boost and unveil the competitiveness of each student. In the end, the sought after prize, 2 ukeleles sponsored by Music 101 PH had been rewarded to Marc Rico Ballano and Marc Gestiada. Another AVP was presented after the game.




By this time, it's about the Entrepreneurial Student Society-it's historical background, previous administrations and accomplishments. The new members of the society had witnessed through the lively videos and unforgettable moments captured in photos the events and activities conducted by the society. The officers also took advantage at the time to formally open the committee application to the freshmen. The event was remarkably closed by a short delivery of speech from the chairperson, Prof. San Agustin. She imparted to the students the real meaning of entrepreneurship and how far they could be of they will take the course seriously with heart. The chairperson also did acknowledge the efforts of the ESS officers and committee member present at the event.
