What's with the Entrep Movie Day?

Snacks, good friends, cozy weather and a good movie. Aaahhh what could be more perfect than this? The most relaxing thing is to be inside all warm and cozy whilst rain drops hit the window panes around. There’s something about that sound that is just soothing. I bet most of you spend your rainy days with this kind of chill. And sure, these days makes us feels so lazy and we just wanna lay down in our bed all day long, but sometimes we just really need a time to unwind and relax despite of too much stress in school works, projects and deadlines. The weather just perfectly fits with our recent event happened this October 3,2017 which is "ENTREP MOVIE DAY"

Some asks "What's with the Entrep Movie Day?" (Ano bang gagawin dun? Bakit may gantong event ang ESS? ) I bet you too ask yourself with this question. We have came up with this simple event not just to have an event, but ofcourse we want to help students to just forget all their worries just for a day and also be motivated and inspired at the same time with the movie we have prepared.

For the first movie which is The Founder, this movie shows the story of Ray Kroc, a struggling

salesman turned Founder of McDonald’s. In 1950s, Ray Kroc met Mac and Dick McDonald, who were running a burger operation in Southern California. Ray was impressed by the brothers' speedy system of making the food and saw franchise potential. Ray expands the McDonald’s restaurants through franchisees, pulls the company from the brothers and creates a multi-billion dollar empire. This movie teaches many important business lessons, that we can apply as future entrepreneurs. Here are some:

1. Be Curious - In being an entrepreneur, we have to be curious about everything that is happening around us. We have to keep on asking questions like why, how, when. Curiosity is an important characteristic to get fresh ideas.

2. Explore New Ways - Just because something is not done in the past, doesn’t mean it can’t be done in the future. There's so much more out there, you just have to get out of your comfort zone to explore.

3. Solve Customer Problems - When a business provides what customers need, it doesn't have to convince customers and look for them. Supply of the right product creates demand. We, as entrepreneurs have to think what's customer wants and need in order to fill up that problem. And if we just solve a customer problem, tadahhh it's surely one big jackpot to your business!

4. Think BIG! - This ones my favorite lesson in the movie. When Ray Kroc's wife asks him "When will be this enough for you? When you will be satified?" He just answered "I think I will never be" And by then Ray Kroc thought big and with his persistence, he innovated and mastered the art of business expansion through franchisee model. And I also think that this is the most important thing that entrepreneurs should remember, we shouldn't settle for less because I believed that what you think is what you've become.

There are so much more lessons we can get in that movie but i know you too have also remembered a lot in this movie.

And just for a short break, the announcement for the winners of Eongold's Raffle Draw just happened. The lucky winners of 15,000php worth of Gold Accounts is Marygel Munar and Jewel Estipular

And for our second movie, The Intern, It’s a comedy that uses humor to demonstrate the value of creating a multi-generational workforce - with the central character a 70-something retired executive played by Robert DeNiro.

It’s refreshing that the movie doesn’t resort to gratuitous “Grumpy Old Men” humor but instead infuses humanity and dignity in the lead character. In a world that often glorifies twenty-something billionaires and disregards issues of ageism in the workplace, this is a movie that ultimately promotes the practice of mixing generations and allowing a variety of work habits to prevail.

And here I also compiled some entrepreneurial lessons we've got in this movie:

  1. Start where you are. People often asks how to come up with a business idea. Well, what is one product or service you wish was there, was served better, looked better or functioned better? The best way is to look right where you are and ask these questions.

  2. Go on be yourself and stand out. "Why do you wear a suit?" I want to stand out. The CEO laughs and says its not necessary but he doesn’t relent, he keeps wearing the suit.

  3. Nothing beats passion. Of course there are other factors like team, finances, and market forces. But no, I still think nothing beats passion. De Niro told the CEO, ‘I saw you teaching the ladies at the warehouse how to fold a piece of clothing. I tell you nobody will love your company the way you do.’

Have you been motivated enough after seeing this movies? We bet you are!

After watching the movies, a short video presentation of University Inrams was played on the screen that was created by the PRESS Team's video editor Kate Sibayan. And after that we proceed to the recognition of students who have represented our department in the recent Unviversity Intramurals. Prof. Jerome Dumlao was also present to award the students.

And this event wouldn't be all possible without our hardworking ess officers to make this event happen. We would like to extend our appreciation to the students who have come to join us in this event, we hoped that this have helped you guys to be inspired in reaching your entrepreneurial dreams. Thank you so much and we hope you guys had fun in this event!
